Gun Fire and Checklists

Back in March of this year, I set two goals for myself (high achiever, I know).

Goal 1: Don't get pregnant this year.

Goal 2: Run a half marathon.

Ya know how exhilarating it is to cross things off of a list?! I felt that yesterday. Check.
Before the race. Ready!

My phone was abuzz with texts, HeyTells, and calls. My heart was ablaze with excitement and anticipation.

As Macaulay Culken said so well, "This is it. Don't get scared now."

The gun fired and we were off. Gettysburg has some history with battling, but today it was personal.

It wasn't the easiest run. Hill after hill, there were a couple moments at the end where I felt like I pressed auto-pilot. Telling my legs to keep moving seemed almost impossible. I. Must. Walk.

Annnnnnd, they're off!
But then I heard a voice. A familiar voice from the crowd. Not a, "Great job!", sweet voice, but a voice that new I had more to give. "Finish well. Finish well. Head up."And then it kicked in. The momentum I didn't know I still had. The sprint to the finish, because I still needed to give MY best. It was personal.

Sometimes we can enable each other with a sweet, kind, word. And sometimes, we can empower each other with truth and knowledge of the greatness we are called to.

So today I say to you, Finish Well! Finish Well! Head Up! You've got this! You CAN do it!

We are watching and cheering you on. You've got this.
Running. Mile 4.
