Midwife Appointment-Numero Dos

A day off work and a healthy baby heartbeat. What more could a pregnant woman ask for?! Brandon and I left for our appointment a tad early so we could browse the Pottery Barn Kids outlet. Yes, we do have to drive an hour to the birth center, but we go by the outlets and the Park City Mall on the way. It's a very nice trade (long drive for shopping).

We arrive at Birth Care. Let me create a mental picture for you because I assure that it's not what you are picturing as the typical doctor's office. Outside, a horse and buggy awaits the mothers inside that just gave birth 6 weeks ago. They are getting wellness checks for their new babes. Inside, an Amish woman takes my name and information while 2 Amish mothers laugh about their sleepless nights and cold drive to the center. Ahh, do you feel the love already?! At this point I have to stop and give props to Tricia Brown-Nystrom. Without her wisdom and advice, I would not have found Birth Care, nor would we be so happy and in love with our pregnancy experience thus far. Thanks Tricia!

The appointment goes great. Iron, blood pressure, weight, and heartbeat are all perfectly in tune. By the way, we finally got to hear the baby's heartbeat. Swish, swish, swish..it was beating so fast! 150 beats per minute! Amazing. Amazing.

Lastly, we checked out the birthing rooms. The pictures above are of the room where I will give birth and where our families/friends will be hanging out if decide to make the trek. At Birth Care, when you give birth, you can stay for 2-4 hours after delivery and then they ship you home. It's as close to a home birth as you can get without actually being at home. I think the pictures give you a good idea of how "homey" or should I say "Lancaster County" these birth rooms really are. It is lovely. Till next time...

cant wait to hear how your birthing experience goes! I love natural births, and I think it's awesome you are going to have your baby in Amish country :)

Looks like a bed and breakfast! :) I'd take that. You know... my 3rd was natural and I'm not going to understate the pain... but the benifits afterward were amazing. I was so much more awake and alert and so was avery. I don't know that I can put it into words. I'm not sure I would have the strength or courage to do it again... but in most ways it was my favorite birth of all. (and I have had c-section birth and epidural v-birth as well.)
