NST also known as Non-Stress Test

Here is another friendly update from the Moists. Brandon and I went to the midwife this morning at BirthCare for a routine NST, due to the fact that we are 6 days past our "due date". I still feel great and Eva has been dancing to her usual beat, so I had no worries about the visit and was actually looking forward to seeing what our progress was.

After being escorted to the Midwives' Quarters (a real bed, not one of those doctor table things), I laid down and Donna placed 2 circular devices on my belly and attached them with these homemade (probably a thank you gift from an amish client) fabric pieces. The circular devices were 2 doppler machines to detect and pick up internal activity, which printed out through a machine next to my bed. It measured contractions and gave a printout of Eva's heartbeat.

As soon as we had the room to ourselves (this is a 20 minute test), Brandon jumped up and went over to read the printout. "What does it say?" I kept asking. He began to read Eva's heartbeat, which increased whenever she jumped or punched, and my contractions! Yes, that's right. I had been having contractions and didn't even know it. They were painless. After a couple times of Brandon telling me when I was having a contraction, I learned what it felt like. I had thought the feeling was Eva moving.

Valerie, the midwife, came in and read the printout after about an hour of Brandon and I playing, taking pictures, and enjoying this last part in the process. All of the numbers checked out and she also concluded that I was 3 cm dilated! A permanent smile, like the one that pasted itself on my face when we discovered we were pregnant, crept out to greet me again. So exciting.

Within the week we look forward to Eva's entry into a little room in Lancaster County and into the big room of our hearts. Brandon and I are ecstatically awaiting her arrival!
