Dedication Day

For any of you that have followed our journey, these words may sound familiar. On Sunday, we took the opportunity before God, our church, family, and friends, to dedicate our lives to raising Eva to know the heart of Jesus. Here is what we wrote and read to her and all of those listening.

I’m Samantha and this is my husband Brandon. Our daughter, Eva Sephora was born July 25th, at a birthing center in the middle of Amish Country. Around 9pm we joined horse and buggies in the parking lot and ventured inside for a 2 hour and 2 push labor and natural delivery.

Eva is the name God placed in my heart months before we were pregnant. My grandfather was an orphan and rather than going into foster care, his Aunt Eva stepped in and took him as her own. This mantle was passed to my grandparents during a rough time in my parent’s lives, when they stepped in to help raise me. Eva means life and our prayer is that she’d be life in dark places and break down barriers with her life of joy.

Sephora, means beautiful bird. Unknowingly at the time, a pesky bird who insisted on smashing its beak into our windows each morning at 6am, would become a source of revelations. “Bird” is referenced over 300 times in the Bible.

During labor I whispered Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Today we declare this verse over Eva. You, Eva, can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
