A Soap Box

Let's take a moment to reflect on Joshua. Yes. Joshua in the Bible. The Joshua who led his people to a wall to shout the loudest shout they had ever shouted before in their lives. And what happened? Yes, the walls of Jericho came tumbling down. Ok, that's nice you say, but give another example? Surely, I will. Let's take Esther for example. Sure she was gorgeous and sure she had help from her cousin, Mordecai, but they were her words that saved the Jewish people from slaughter.

All of this to say (and I could give you many more examples, but I'll spare you at the moment) that out of our mouths come life and death (Proverbs 18:21). Whoa! That's a pretty powerful statement...but it's true! As a mama and daddy, Brandon and I have realized the unbelievable importance in the words we say over our children, or at this point, Eva.

How often do you hear someone at Target, "He is such a terrible sleeper. He's never going to grow out of this stage!. Or, "She is always causing trouble. I can't take my eye off of her for a minute!" Now I know what you're thinking, I may be nitpicking, but my heart hurts when little children have words of death (if the words aren't life, they're death) spoken over them time and time again.

So, yes, this is a bit of a soap box. But I want it to be encouragement too. Think about the power we DO have to speak over our babes. Words of life. Words of peace. Words of destiny. Words of power. Words of blessing. Man, it gets me excited just thinking about it.

If a shout can make the walls of a city crumble, imagine what a shout can do coming from your mouth. Imagine...
